When Sound Becomes Visible: Hieroglyphics in the Sand
~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~
Sound is something we tend to take for granted, never giving it much thought. Unless we are hearing impaired, it’s something that has always been there, even before we left the womb. It may have started with the sound of our own heartbeat or that of our mother, but as soon as we developed enough to hear, it has been part of our experience.
There are schools of thought that indicate some sounds can be detrimental to our health while others can aid in healing. What are these hidden properties of sound? How do they impact us? Can sound make us ill? Is there any truth behind the concept of healing with sound? Can working with sound “fine tune” us and aid our evolution?
With us this hour to delve more deeply into sound and its many hidden properties, including becoming visible, is acoustics pioneer and author of “Egyptian Sonics,” John Stuart Reid. John is a man on a mission to educate and inspire the world in the field of cymatics, the study of visible sound, and Sound Therapy, the healing power of sound. His cymatics research includes a study on how dolphins see with sound, published in the Journal of Marine Biology, and differentiating between the sounds emitted by healthy cells and cancer cells, published in the Water Journal.
