Evolving Through the Marriage of Spirit and Activism

Evolving Through the Marriage of Spirit and Activism
~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~
During the last twenty or so years, there has been much time, effort and study spent on spirituality and personal growth. Libraries and book stores (both brick and mortar and online) continue to be filled with self-help books, with more being published daily.

Yet we are experiencing unprecedented ecological, economic and cultural crises. From oceans of plastic, air pollution, and deteriorating ozone layer, to climate change, melting ice caps and the threat of nuclear war, our very existence is being threatened on a global scale.

It would appear that sitting around meditating and contemplating our navel is not enough to solve the massive challenges we face.

Quite frankly, we are rapidly running out of time.

I don’t know about you but I’m open to suggestions on how to move forward.

Hopefully our guest this hour can offer some viable options. With us is TERRY PATTEN. Terry speaks and consults internationally as a community organizer, philosopher, and teacher. Over the last fifteen years, he has devoted his efforts to the integral project of evolving consciousness through practice, and facing, examining, and healing our global crises through the marriage of spirit and activism.
Patten is also a social entrepreneur involved in supporting restorative redwood forestry, innovating new technological alternatives to fossil fuels, and creating new currencies for a sustainable economy. Most recently, he is the author of “A New Republic of the Heart: An Ethos for Revolutionaries.”

Knowledge VS Wisdom: Evolving Purpose

Knowledge VS Wisdom: Evolving Purpose
~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~
Life is a process. If we are to gain the substance to evolve, we must gather data from the full spectrum of life. One of the many tragedies in our throwaway society is the attitude toward elders. We tend to view them as dimwitted, behind the times, in need of being surplused. Meanwhile, the young go off halfcocked, recreating the same mistakes as past generations, rather than learning from the elders and taking up where they left off.

Indigenous societies recognized that only those who have lived long, and have applied knowledge to a life full of experience possess wisdom. Thus, elders were revered and granted long, productive latter years advising the younger generations.

Dirack’s equation, which is mathematically consistent, demonstrates that causes located in both the past and the future propagate toward the present, creating the events of our lives. If we only value the visions we have for the future, and do not take into account the events of the past, we only have one half of the picture at best.
In order to evolve, we need the wisdom from the past, combined with vision for the future, to create evolution in the present.

Yet the best we have to look forward to when we age is to retire with enough money to afford our medications, while we sit on our hands, watching life go by.
How can we reclaim the dignity and value of elderhood? How can we learn to live productive lives long past retirement? For that matter, isn’t retirement overrated?

Our guest this hour has dedicated forty years to assisting people in negotiating life transitions as they create lives of purpose and passion. Ron Pevny is Founding Director of the Center for Conscious Eldering, based in Durango, Colorado, and is also a Certified Sage-ing leader. He is author of “Conscious Living, Conscious Aging: embrace and savor your next chapter.” Ron has served as the host/interviewer for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Transforming Aging Summits presented by The Shift Network. He has presented many programs for people who hear the call to age consciously at retreat centers around North America over the past fifteen years.

Soul-Centered Evolution

Soul-Centered Evolution
On MISSION EVOLUTION  Radio With Host:
~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~
One definition of evolution is “the gradual development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form.” MISSION: EVOLUTION’s focus is on this concept, rather than Darwinism or natural selection. Our interest is in the spiritual evolution that is increasingly possible as we move into the higher frequency area of the galaxy characterized by the Aquarian age.

The soul is defined as the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal. Therefore, no study of spiritual evolution is complete without addressing the soul.

If the soul is immortal, does it evolve, or is it perfect as is? As we evolve as individuals, do we become more soulful – more in alignment with the immaterial essence from which we came? If so, that would seem to indicate we are devolving into a prior, simpler form. Or, do we need to devolve into our original form as individuals, before we can evolve as an interconnected species?

Who better to help us contemplate Soul-centered evolution than Thomas Moore? Thomas published his classic “Care of the Soul” in 1992, and has since written twenty books on spirituality, sexuality, myth, religion and depth psychology. His books have been translated into thirty-two languages. He has taught religious studies and psychology and has been a psychotherapist for over 30 years. Thomas often speaks at C. G. Jung societies, and has done special work consulting at major medical centers with the idea of bringing soul to medicine.
