Climate Crisis: Manifestation of The Human Shadow

Climate Crisis: Manifestation of The Human Shadow

~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~

After the unprecedented upheaval of 2020, we have focused MISSION: EVOLUTION’S guests and episodes on creatively moving forward to manifest a better tomorrow.

Many practices both ancient and modern teach that the outer world is merely a reflection of the inner one. This concept is found in so many sources that it warrants a closer look. If indeed our inner landscape creates the outer one, we are in a world of hurt – on both counts. Looking outwards, we see wars, rioting, civil unrest, anarchy, climate crisis, a pandemic and massive death of species. If this is a reflection of our inner workings, I would have to say our inner worlds are one big hot mess!

Historically, the tendency has been to attempt fixing things from the outside while denying any disfunction on the inside. What would happen to the outer world if, instead, we each turned within and addressed the imbalances that have been festering there for generations?

With us this hour to explore that very thing is Jack Adam Weber. Jack is a licensed Chinese medicine clinician with over 20 years’ experience. He is also a life coach, climate activist, organic farmer, artist, and celebrated poet. His most recent book is “Climate Cure: Heal Yourself to Heal the Planet.”

Jack writes about holistic medicine, emotional depth work, mind-body integration, and climate crisis. He developed the Nourish Practice, a deeply restorative, somatic meditation experience that doubles as an educational guide for healing through the wounds of childhood.

Lockdown, Stress Eating and Addictions

 Lockdown, Stress Eating and Addictions

~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~

There are many hidden effects of the pandemic that were not obvious at first. Among those is an increase in addictions and overdoses.

Dr. Nora D. Volkow, the Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse stated, “We do not yet have nationwide data that capture the full impact of Covid-19 and its related societal effects on overdose deaths, but some indicators show troubling increases associated with it.”

In thinking of addiction we often link it with drugs and alcohol. However, due to the lockdown, there are hidden addictions on the rise that we may not recognize. While addiction may primarily be viewed as a mental problem, there are multiple physical factors involved as well.

As we have been coping with the stress and uncertainty caused by COVID-19 and the resulting isolation, many of us have taken to increased stress eating or comfort foods. The foods people tend to crave in these situations are very often processed or fried foods, laden with sugar, salt, saturated fats, and refined carbohydrates. These types of food provide a temporary “high.” They also destabilize blood sugar, increase inflammation, and deplete the brain of essential neurotransmitters, creating biochemical deficits. These deficits lead to anxiety, depression, and sleep problems, all of which have been linked to an increased risk of drug use.

With us this hour to discuss the nature of addictions and new methods of beating them is JOSEPH EISELE, author of  “LEAVING DRUG AND ALCOHOL ADDICTIONS FOR GOOD.” He is the co-founder and clinical director of InnerBalance Health Center in Loveland, Colorado, a holistic treatment center established in 1999 for individuals battling drug and alcohol addiction.

Eisele is a pioneer in the use of biochemical restoration, the "missing link" he discovered during his own journey to sobriety more than thirty-five years ago. He holds state and national certifications as an alcohol and drug therapist and received specialized training as an interventionist from the Johnson Institute.

Why is all of this Happening? The World as a Web of Interrelated Processes

Why is all of this Happening?

The World as a Web of Interrelated

Processes

 ~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~

As of late, we seem to be bombarded with seemingly random, yet simultaneous, catastrophic events. We have been faced with environmental crisis, a worldwide pandemic, extreme polarization, social unrest, failing economies, riots, looting, and in the US, a nightmare election and the recent desecration of our capitol.

Are these events unrelated and random, or interconnected? Are they symptoms of a larger picture? If so, what is it? If we are indeed looking at a web of interrelated processes, what are the scientific principles behind it? Is there a way to use these principles to transmute our experience and evolve?

With us this hour to unravel these mysteries from a scientific perspective is Shelli Renée Joye. Shelli attended Rice University on a physics scholarship and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, she worked with John Lilly on interspecies communication, and pursued contemplative practice with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. She completed her doctorate in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Shelli is the author of several books, including “Tuning the Mind,” and her latest, “The Electromagnetic Brain.”
