The Boundless Self
~ Gwilda Wiyaka ~
Identity is a mysterious thing. We can only be what we
identify with, yet in the process of identification, we become trapped in the
identity.
We live, breathe and express through the limited bandwidth
of frequency that, by our own attunement, defines us.
We are expansive beings of light – capable of multiple
expressions in any moment – designed to shift like quicksilver, yet our wings
have been clipped. We have been
conditioned to take on a role and stick with it for fear of losing ourselves,
our importance in the scheme of things, and our relationship to others.
What is this boundless self? Where
do we truly begin and end? Can we transcend identity and still function in
society? If we let go of these self-imposed limitations, what wonders are we
capable of? Could we actually evolve into more than we currently are?
Our guest this hour has some amazing and original
thoughts on this very subject. Robert Levine is a Professor of Psychology and
former Associate Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at California
State University, Fresno, where he has won awards for both his teaching and
research. He is former President of the Western Psychological Association. His
books include “A Geography of Time,” “The Power of Persuasion: How We're Bought
and Sold,” and the just released new edition of “Stranger in the Mirror: The
Scientific Search for the Self,”
