Making a Difference: Support VS Interference
Many well-meaning people dive into an indigenous culture wanting to lend a hand without considering maybe, just maybe it is not broken.
How can we offer support without violating a society? What impact does our very presence have on indigenous peoples. Are we arrogant in assuming their lifestyle is inferior just because it is so different from our own?
With us this hour to consider the impact of outsiders on native people is Jeff Rasley. Jeff is a writer, Himalayan expedition leader, lawyer, writing coach, community activist, and president of the Basa Village Foundation USA and of the Scientech Foundation of Indiana. He also serves on the board of the Indianapolis Peace and Justice Center. He is the author of 14 books, his latest: “Bringing Progress to Paradise: What I got from giving to a mountain village in Nepal.”
