The Power of Conscious Response

As our world continues to go through rapid shifts and upheaval it’s easy to feel like powerless passengers on a runaway train. While there are some things we can control, there seems to be many more that we cannot.

What we can manage, however is our responses to our circumstances.

Will that be enough to make a difference in the world?

With us this hour to explore our options is Miles Kessler. Miles is a lineage holder in both the Mahasi tradition of Buddhist meditation, and the Iwama tradition of Aikido. For over 25 years Miles has been teaching meditation, embodiment and spiritual awakening to thousands of people around the world.

As is the former director of Aikido Without Borders Miles established dojos in Israel and Palestine where he facilitated cross cultural trainings in the martial art of Aikido.

Miles is the director of The Integral Dojo, an online school of meditation, aikido and integral practices.

A Doctor's Alternative Approach to Depression

An Alternative Approach to Depression

Major depression is the most common mental disorder in the U.S. and is the strongest risk factor for suicide behavior. Previous findings show an increase in depression in the U.S. population from 6.6 percent in 2005 to 7.3 percent in 2015. Results from a study showed that in the first year of the pandemic, April 2020-April 2021, the prevalence of people with depression or anxiety symptoms in America increased substantially — from about 11 percent of people in 2019 to close to 40 percent.

Given these startling facts it may be time to look deeper into depression and alternative approaches to treatment.

With us this hour to delve into the topic of depression is the author of “What If It's NOT Depression?: Your Guide to Finding Answers and Solutions,” Dr Achina Stein, Dr Stein is an osteopathic physician who graduated from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990 and has been in practice as a board-certified psychiatrist for over 25 years. Her osteopathic roots set her apart from the conventional psychiatrists because of her use of osteopathic philosophy and bio-psycho-social treatment approach.  Dr. Stein is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the American College of Neuropsychiatry, and was awarded the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award in 2008.
